Big Brother Online - A Fan's Playhouse

Everywhere I look...I see Big Brother. Maybe it is a youtube vid...or a blog...or another new blog...or a myspace page...or a commercial while I'm watching all of my favorite programming on CBS (send check for promo). Maybe it is because that - besides my regular daily responsibilities - BB10 is all that is on my mind lately. Over the past few days, the information has started slowly flowing out. 13 houseguests..opposites...beautiful model...some older houseguests...press dates..etc. It has officially started.

There is a world of choices for the avid BB fan to feed their habit. Some do it with an overdose of the live feeds. You can order the feeds...or you can watch much of it on youtube..or you can visit a blog page (such as this one) and have the feeds laid out for you so as to offer quick, time sequential viewing of what happened in the house that day.

Many choose to get their BB fix through chat rooms. Personally, I have never been much of a chatter. I go into a room and usually just watch for a while...I guess I'm not the best small talker....but many are just the opposite, and they fuel themselves on gut-wrenching discussions having to do with opinions of the houseguests or plot twists in the game. Message boards provide that same time of outlet, plus give you a chance to roam about and catch a few vids and such in between message checking. The multi-tasker will have a tab opened for each one and make the rounds multiple times during a normal viewing day/night.

Now..as I try to muster through this cloud in my head and decide what point I am trying to make (Diane Henry..I can sympathize), I think my early theme of thought for this BB season is a salute to the community of online Big Brother fan participants. There is a place for everyone and everyone has the chance to speak up and let their opinions be known (yes...everyone....yes, I know some people are just pains in the ass, but ...).

Some of the most enjoying moments of BB for me is the time I spend reading the comments that viewers leave on my youtube channel http://youtube.com/quirkydude Over the course of the season, I see the emotions of particular viewers sway back and forth between love and hate in a manner that, in real life, would drive one bonkers. Yet, we all know it is for fun (most of us, anyway), and by the end of the season, we can reasonably discuss the outcome and the path that was taken to get there.

There are faces behind all of those comments, but I'm really not so sure I want to see them. Part of participating in such online outlets is the freedom of expressing yourself in the privacy of your own home and being able to leave the "real" part of your life aside for just a little while. It is when those anonymous viewers share those opinions, the time and a few moments of their lives with me, that I realize I've found my favorite outlet for enjoying Big Brother.

Toss out the clips and listen to what the fans think. That is what I enjoy. I look forward to providing that outlet again this season...and I certainly look forward to hearing back from those who watch.
